Why We Need Women Plumbers

Meeting Alexia Hefti, I'm reminded again why I started femmebought - sometimes hiring a women isn't just a want, it's a need.

Alexia is a former human rights lawyer and humanitarian. She has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. That spirit led her to create and grow Deloitte’s Blockchain Tax department. She's her own mini-entrepreneur within Deloitte. Alexia spends her day representing innovators and entrepreneurs in blockchain and cryptocurrency.

As I was interviewing Alexia for our Women in Technology and Blockchain series, she told me why femmebought means so much to her. Alexia used to work for a rape and abuse victim shelter. Such powerful work! From time to time the house they lived in needed fixing. For safety reasons, only women were hired to do this work. Alexia was explaining that it wasn't always easy finding women who did the kind of work they needed, especially plumbers. She told a story about needing to go 3 hours outside Vancouver to be able to find a women entrepreneur who could do the work.

Imagine if they had access to a women business directory like the one we're building. Alexia's story shows us how important it is for us to build this across the globe. There's a real need in the marketplace. With your help and support we're going to build the connections needed in our communities.

Thank you Alexia for the incredible reminder of why the work we do is so important.
